The Piper Spring community rests on 116 acres of gently rolling farmland purchased from the Ike Crabtree estate. Its name is derived from the natural spring near the southern boundary of the property, which feeds some of the surrounding creeks and streams. The Piper spring has been claimed to have served as the water source for the town of Abingdon at one time.
